In the context of Search Console, a host refers to a specific domain or subdomain that is verified and tracked within the platform. Monitoring host status is important for SEO professionals because it helps them identify and troubleshoot crawl and indexing issues that may be affecting a website’s visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs), with 61% of websites having crawl errors that can negatively impact their search engine rankings (Ahrefs, 2020). By monitoring host status, SEO professionals can improve crawl efficiency, enhance indexing, and resolve technical issues faster, ultimately leading to better website performance and online visibility. However, the report highlights a critical problem with server connectivity, showing a “high fail rate” over the past week. A graph reveals that failed crawl requests started rising around the end of July and continued to spike throughout August and early September. This persistent server issue suggests that Googlebot has had increasing difficulty accessing the site, which is a major concern for SEO. If Google cannot crawl or index the site effectively due to connectivity failures, this could negatively impact search rankings and organic visibility. Resolution of Host Status Problem
To resolve the issue, I identified that the “Remove RSS Feed” plugin, created by Boopathi Rajan, was installed on the website. This plugin may have been interfering with the site’s functionality, potentially contributing to the server connectivity problems observed in Google Search Console. To address this, I navigated to the WordPress dashboard, located the installed plugins, and proceeded to delete the “Remove RSS Feed” plugin. Removing this plugin eliminated any potential conflicts it may have caused with the site’s core operations or other functionalities, helping to improve site performance and restore proper server connectivity for Googlebot.
